The past, present and future are static states of time, although the moments of experience are ever changing. Each passing second will never measure up to the idyllic and limitless “future” but somehow we never really reach that destination.  We will never leave the present and arrive in the “future” because we are constantly in all three periods of time — past, present and future.

Sometimes I find myself slipping into memories, glorifying them as the “better days” or “easier times.” They only seem better and easier because I’ve overcome what I once perceived difficult. Of course, passing an AP English exam can’t compare to earning a decent living. As our challenges advance through life, it’s easy to consider the years behind us as the good ol’ days.

We are now in the past’s future. The future we predicted we’d be rich, famous, married or just whatever you desired 10 years ago.  Many people aren’t where they expected or hoped to be but I don’t think that’s reason to feel like a failure. One day, today will be considered “better days” or “easier times.”

I think the present will forever be the safe zone because it’s the only state of time that can be changed. Whatever we harvest in our lives at this moment will grow in years to come. I don’t think each time we reap, the seed planted will blossom into tangible value. However, what we reap will be valuable; a valuable lesson, experience, realization or discovery.

The future always seems better than the present because it hasn’t happened yet. You can fantasize any future you want. The mind is one of our greatest creative tools. Do what you can to bring your vision to life. Paramore has a song called “Miracle” which has a beautiful lyric, “It’s not faith if you use your eyes.”

Let’s keep harvesting and envisioning because before you know it, this will be the past.
