Lane Bryant Gets Fashionable…Finally

The plus-size fashion world is always getting a lot of  flak for not providing stylish on-trend looks for its curvy clientele. Leading plus-size retailer Lane Bryant is leading a new path that will hopefully catch on among other plus-size brands  — designer collaborations. Sure, high-low combos aren’t anything new but until now it hasn’t tapped into this market. Kicking off the movement of designer looks for every body are  Isabel and Ruben Toledo.  The gorgeous collaboration debuted last Thursday with a fashion show and has received high praises from  both consumers and fashion critics.

It’s so refreshing to see some youthful and creative looks for Lane Bryant.  With the growing number of full-figured style icons like Gabi Fresh and Tess Munster, women of all body types are embracing their image and working everything they’ve got. We no longer live in a world where we limit beauty to a size 0. The fashion industry may still think that way but society is changing. This is just the start of supply and demand. To no surprise, the collaborative line (which will release more collections throughout this year) is flying off the racks.

“For me, it’s really important that women are given the opportunity to be eccentric,” Isabel told Fashionista. “The liberty, the freedom, the right to be eccentric, to be their size, and to have the freedom or the opportunity to enjoy fashion at any size […] I can’t imagine not having that, so I feel a duty to provide it.”

I may not fall into the plus-size category. I’m a weird 8/10 and have issues finding clothes that fit my  short and petite yet curvy body. Fashion shouldn’t be as limited as it is. From my shopping experience, it seems as if there’s nothing made for full busted gals like myself. Every dress doesn’t allow for bra straps which I seriously can not go without. I’m not saying all designers have an obligation to make clothes for us fuller chicks but it’d be great if at least some of them felt inspired to think about us. The Toledos say it’s their duty to allow all women enjoy fashion. Hopefully they can think about the in-betweeners. Yes, that should be a new fashion market — the in-betweeners.
