Checked Luggage vs Carry-On: Diary of a Mad Naturalista

Day 7 of 31

I…hate…packing.

I’m headed to Chicago in three days for Book Expo and for the first time ever, I’m packing early. I have a bad case of last minute prepping. I mean, a really bad case. It was only a few hours before my flight to London for a 3 month study abroad program, when I decided to pack. As you could imagine, it was a disaster.  But don’t you dare think for a second that I’ve learned my lesson. Every trip since then has started with a similar frantic episode. Why am I like this?

“Book Expo is only for a few days, so this trip should be easy to pack for,” Kadia said as she stared into her open suitcase while sitting atop a pile of clean laundry. My current dilemma is carry-on vs check-in luggage. Obviously carry-on is the easiest route for travel, but then I can’t bring all of my essentials. This is a major concern. You can’t take a natural-headed black woman away from her products!!  I need my oils, I need my lotions, I need my potions, I need my juices and berries. And NANN one of them will last at 3. 4 oz.  — that’s basically how much I use in one sitting. I guess I could just make multiple travel size bottles of product but ain’t nobody got time for that.

So why don’t I just check-in my luggage, you ask? Because airlines can’t keep their grubby paws off your wallet. I would have to pay $50 to check-in this one suitcase. Porque?!

Again, I hate packing.

Signing off with the ultimate anthem of the weekend:
